Internet Mail Client Program Configuration


Configuring mail applications to use POP3

The following settings are from Netscape’s Mail and News Preferences configuration. 
Microsoft's Internet mail client program can be set up by using the Mail, Options, Server tab located in the Internet Mail Program. The mail program can be started in two ways. Either by clicking on the mail icon located on the Internet Explorer's toolbar, Read Mail or by clicking on Start, Program then Internet Mail. Other mail readers will have similar configuration settings. The following examples will send and retrieve mail for users with mailboxes at DOSSNET.

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - - - - - smtp.dossnet.com
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - -- - - - pop3.dossnet.com

Pop3 User Name ------------------------ alias, user name or real name
Eg: john123, alex563 and Scott Hunter are pop3 User names.
Their Email address will be:
john123@dossnet.com  alex563@dossnet.com  and 
scott.hunter@dossnet.com

If the your mail program has an option "Outgoing Server requires authentication
This check box it MUST be enabled.

When you use the "get mail" command (or equivalent) in your mail reader, you will be prompted to enter your user name and password. Your user name is the "Internet" style name, minus the domain name. For instance SCOTT HUNTER user name in his POP3 mail client is SCOTT.HUNTER, with the period between his first and last names.
